Handel essays

Handel essays George Frideric Handel was born in Halle, Germany on February 23, 1685. Early in his life Handel began to study music. He started studying music in 1694 against his fathers wishes. From his very childhood Handel had discovered such a strong propensity to music, that his father, who always intended him for the study of Civil Law, had reason to be alarmed. Perceiving that this inclination still increased, he took every method to oppose it. He strictly forbad him to meddle with any musical instrument; nothing of that kind was suffered to remain in the house, nor was he ever permitted to go to any other, where such kind of furniture was in use. All this caution and art, instead of restraining, did but augment his passion. He had found means to get a little clavichord privately conveyd to a room at the top of the house (Mainwaring, 12-13). On one of Handels family visits to Saxe-Weissenfels court, where Handels half-brother Karl, who is 36 years older than him, held the position of Valet de chambre and his father the position of court surgeon, Handels organ playing attracted the attention of the duke, who urged Handels father to allow him to study music as well as law (Dean and Hicks, 1-2). Handel was then placed under the tuition of F.W. Zachow, an organist In 1706, Handel traveled to Italy where he met Arcangelo Corelli and Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti who had influenced his music. The five years he spent in Italy he learned the Italian music styles concerto grosso, chamber cantata, and opera seria. His writing for strings undoubtedly benefited from his acquaintance with Corelli (Dean and Hicks, 12-13). From Italy, Handel then decided to visit England. He decided to settle in London where he had worked for most of his life, and never returned to Germany. In England is where he had his biggest challenge of getting the people intereste...

Transitioning from Nonfiction to Fiction Writing

Transitioning from Nonfiction to Fiction Writing First of all, it is possible. Ernest Hemingway and William Kennedy moved from journalism; Sue Monk Kidd from memoir; and C. S. Lewis from essays and treatises. Sue Monk Kidd states that the most frequently-asked question on her book tours is, â€Å"How did you go from nonfiction to fiction?† Here are some tips and support to help you make the transition: You need to transition your reading, as well. Read your most-admired authors and new fiction authors also. Remember, C.S. Lewis says good readers read a piece more than once. Have a plan. Stagger your writing. Perhaps write fiction and nonfiction on alternate days. Or, write your fiction first, then go back to the nonfiction you’re more comfortable with once you’ve met your word count in the other. Writing fiction is a discipline for which you have been well-trained through your nonfiction deadlines. Produce five to ten pages a day faithfully! Try flash fiction first. Because it is short, it is easier to start with and there are numerous contests listed in FundsforWriters newsletter. Your nonfiction themes can find a home in your fiction. For instance, C. S. Lewis’ themes concerned Christianity which he incorporated into his fiction (Chronicles of Narnia) without being didactic or preachy. The skill sets you have developed while writing nonfiction will serve you well in fiction also. These include: 1) Attention to detail. Your descriptions of the who, what, where, why and how will help you in plotting fiction and in description. 2) Interviewing. Interview your characters on what they think about - religion, politics or an event - just as you would a source. 3) Sense of place. Your knowledge of a place garnered from nonfiction can serve you well in fiction. William Kennedy reported on Albany, NY first for the Albany Times Union and then set his cycle of Albany novels there. Readers always want to see a place with which they are familiar portrayed accurately, and your nonfiction experience of place sets you apart. 4) Journal Writing. Your journal or dream journal writing can help with both plot and productivity. This angle also falls in the category of â€Å"write what you know.† 5) Research. Nonfiction research is helpful to fiction. You’ll get that time or place right, but William Kennedy talks about the danger of research: â€Å"And so I got hooked on research, couldn’t get out from under the library’s microfilm machine until I finally realized I was doing myself a great disservice; because your imagination can’t absorb all that new material and synthesize it easily.â€Å" Finally, William Kennedy describes the difference between nonfiction and fiction: â€Å"But the journalist must report on life objectively, and the novelist must reinvent life utterly, and the work has to come up from below instead of down from the top as a journalist receives it. But experience alone will produce only commonplace novels. The real work is a blend of imagination and language.† Source for quotes: Allen, Douglas and Mona Simpson, â€Å"William Kennedy: The Art of Fiction 111,† Paris Review, Winter, 1989.

Legalization Of Selling Human Organs Case Study

Legalization Of Selling Human Organs - Case Study Example Deaths that could be prevented by legalizing organ trade, pitting the merits of legalizing organ trade against the disadvantages of making it illegal. Legalizing the trade will save lives, activities of the black market will be erased, and organs will be available at cheaper prices for all. Universally, there is a problem caused by the high demand for transplants yet a shortage looms in terms of supply. Donations of organs by the deceased are affected by the legal system of countries and the socio-cultural factors. Even in developed countries where deceased organ donations are high, they fail to meet the growing demand. The use of live donors for kidneys and livers transplants is carried out, but the practice is termed illegal in many countries creating black markets for such scarce organs. Many arguments have been passed whether to legalize or not the trade, from medical, financial, legal and other points of view. All the countries are against legalizing organ trade except Iran. Other nations around the world have some laws when it comes to organ trade whether through legislation or outright ban and who can make donations. Presumed consent is being used by other countries to increase the supply of these vital organs which has been adopted by a country like France. Schemes have been developed by the government to compensate those who donate organs and coming up with legal initiatives to collect organs despite being involved in it being illegal. China is among the countries that have violated human rights in relation to organ trade where cases of kidnappings have been reported, strict and prohibitive laws and policies, have been passed to regulate the trade. (Kluger 42) In the world hot spot countries, The Times has identified where the black market of the organ trade takes place. They include South America in which illegal transplantation became an issue in Brazil.

Form of education Essay Example for Free

Form of education Essay â€Å"Education is the key to success†. Everyone knows about it. Education come in many forms, that’s why many people are speaking and writing about it, some with authority and some are ordinary. But does everyone knows the real meaning of Education? How can we say that we are already educated person if we don’t know exactly the real definition of the word Education? And how can we apply it in our daily lives? Education is a stage of such a process which develops your knowledge to learn different things or simply it is the field of study that deals mainly with methods of teaching and learning in schools. There are three forms of Education. It can be Education of Heart, Education of Norm and at last Education of Dominion. The Education of Heart tackles about the education for the perception of the Individual. While, Education of Norm is all about for the perception of the Family and lastly the Education of Dominion (Intellectual, Technical, and Physical Education) it is the education for the perfection of the Nature of Dominion. Education is the most important thing in our life. It is a gift from above which cannot be taken away from us and can bring us to the top of our dreams. Education is not only by going to school, it can happen by a lot of ways. And it is important specially for those people who can’t afford to go to school, because of their status in life. And they believed that through education, one person’s knowledge can be enhanced and improve. The greatest treasure that everyone must have is Education. It’s like planting a rice; at first you need to execute more efforts, time and skills. Then, wait for the right time to harvest. Education is an important tool that is applied in the modern world to succeed, as it lessen the challenges or obstacles which are faced in life. For some people they compared Education as a special ingredient for a cooking recipe. They’ve said that any kind of dishes will never become delicious if it doesn’t have a complete and satisfying ingredient. The foundation of the society is based on Education, since it brings social and economic prosperity. Education offers a setting in which language, tradition, culture and values of the society are developed. Education has played a major role in the modern life to all individuals in the society and also in the industrial world. Employment is based on education, as employees must have the required skills that correspond with the technology to do their different tasks. As the technology keeps improving , more and more people using it in their lives. Therefore, education grown bigger because people nowadays are learning different things from this technology. Education can mold a personality of an individual. It can help one person to further to his or her own future. A good quality education is not only choosing a good school, it’s choosing a school that can handle different attitudes of students and still can teach them the right path to be a good citizen. There’s no young and adult in education as long as you want to reach your goals and your prepared enough to fight for it. Learning is an education and experience is an education too. But sometimes learning something new can be a scary experience. Specially for those times that you have been facing your fears. But it doesn’t mean that we should be afraid to overcome our own fears and mistakes because we can learn a lot from this things and sometimes it can be our guide to become a better and more stronger one. Although we already know that education is an important thing that everyone must have, but for others it still have disadvantages. Knowledge is power; though it is widely accepted that it is essential for growth and development of an individual, but sometimes it is the reason for some discrimination. Some forms of education blindly impose ideas upon young minds instead of teaching them to think for themselves. A lot of people gathered their knowledge based in their experience for which there is no substitute. An education system is very helpful in developing and improving the quality of human life. Living in this contemporary world is very hard to succeed. That’s why it is better to have a good quality education. Education will be our open doors to attain the training and learning experiences for career opportunities that we need to fulfill in our dreams. Through education we can learn how to enhance life skills such as critical thinking skills, a healthy living lifestyle and self-confidence. It also helps to build our personality to learn how to use good manners, and having respect for others. We learn healthy and productive ways to grow into socially active adults.

The Blue Hotel :: Blue Hotel Essays

The Blue Hotel As a recently published book on the works of Stephen Crane, it is rather disappointing to see some of the key moments left out of Stanley Wertheim's criticism in A Stephen Crane Encyclopedia about the short story "The Blue Hotel." Wertheim leaves out a key point in the characterization of the Swede and the plot of the story. This occurs at the point where Patrick Scully, in the story, persuades the Swede to stay in his hotel despite his fears and inhibitions about the Wild West by getting him to drink and not to worry. This by itself is a climatic event because the Swede believes that he is about to be killed or poisoned as Scully brings out the bottle. Another event comes later as Wertheim simply brushes over the murder of the Swede. Both of these events are based on extreme emotional feelings and actions that cause the reader to question the motive behind the Swede's actions as well as his characterization. Wertheim does a very good job at bringing out other points in the novel. The setting he states is "bleak prairie town in northern Nebraska" with the fictional appearance of a dangerous western environment. The blizzard that occurs later in the story, Wertheim continues, represents a "hostile manifestation of nature" that ironically does not kill the Swede. As Wertheim finishes his criticism with the final section of the story, he brings in several arguments about the fault of the Swedes death and the punishment of the gambler. He brings in the argument about the "affirmation of the Howellsian doctrine of complicity" and "the existential necessity for human brotherhood in a viable society.

The Phenomenon Of Red Tide Environmental Sciences Essay

Red tide is a phenomenon that affects the H2O by colourising it ruddy and do a decease of a marine being because of increasing the CO2 in the H2O. So, in this paper we will discourse the job of ruddy tide and how much it affects the Mariness and human life. Besides, we will look at some possible ways in how we can cut down the effects. Then, we will concentrate on the ruddy tide phenomena when it appears in UAE seashores, and how the UAE authorities reacts on it. Introduction: There are many beings which are populating in the marine ecosystem and there are many jobs that can impact the beings in the ocean or sea. One of these job is ruddy tide which caused by microscopic Marine algae. Algal blooms may happen in fresh water every bit good as Marine environments. In general we can state that ruddy tide occur throughout the universe, and it impacting marine ecosystems in many topographic points like Scandinavia, Japan, the Caribbean, Florida and South Pacific. Besides, it is non recent job or issue because the first clip when scientist foremost documented a ruddy tide in 1947 along Gulf of Florida. However, similar event appear in Florida since the mid 1800s. As a consequence, ruddy tide consequence in really large sum of loses around the universe by killing the Marine being, causes diseases to human, and loss in economic sciences. So, we will concentrate on understanding the ruddy tide job and its effects and so suggests some possible solutions to cut down it s impact. Therefore, what is the impact of the ruddy tide and what are the ways to cut down it?Definition of Red Tide:Microscopic Marine algae:Figure sea colored ruddy by ruddy tide phenomenaPlanktonic beings are the chief cause that makes the sea H2O colored ruddy ; they are organisms found on the surface of the sea ( as the figure1 shows ) . Algae is one type of planktonic beings which is good beginning of nutrient for other marine beings. There are toxic and non toxic types of microscopic Marine algae. Red tide is appears when one type of harmful algae or more than one type are addition in its figure all of a sudden. This type of microscopic Marine algae is called Karenia brevis ( K. brevis ) and it can alter the colour of the H2O to red-brown colour and bring forth a toxic substances called breventoxin. This ( K. brevis ) algae can turn rapidly and so cover big country of seaaa‚ ¬a„?s surface. So, the colour of the sea will alter to red colour so it called ruddy tid e. But some clip ( K. brevis ) making bloom that make ocean appear ruddy or brown and in other clip the colour could be green, bluish, violet yellow or orange and the H2O can even stay to be at its usual colour. So, these different colour of ruddy tide is depend on the type of harmful algal bloom but the most common colour is red so, it called ruddy tide. The harmful algal blooms ( HABs ) , which are algal bloom events affecting toxic or otherwise harmful phytoplankton such as dinoflagellates of the genus Alexandrium and Karenia. In add-on, the toxic algae which instance red tide can be divided into three chief groups which contain about 300 types of micro Marine algae. The first group can bring forth toxins critical and represents 25 % of this type of algae and it affect on fish and peopleaa‚ ¬a„?s wellness. The 2nd group can cut down the sum of the O from the H2O that has red tide. The 3rd group combines the two old groups.Algal bloom formation:Alimentary beginnings can play an of import function in impacting algal bloom formation, because algae tend to turn really rapidly under high alimentary handiness. So, when these stuffs like peculiarly P, extra C and nitrogen semen from agricultural dirts to H2O that contains algae aid to a sudden rise in the figure of algae and other plankton. But each alga is ephemeral, and the consequence is a high concentration of dead organic affair which starts to disintegrate and so algal bloom start Concentrated and deposited on the outer surface of the H2O, whet her in the oceans and seas or rivers and its concentrations may make 1000000s of cells per millilitre. Besides, sudden and speedy visual aspect of harmful algal bloom is ensuing from coastal upwelling. And this harmful algal bloom ( HAB ) is causes negative impacts to other beings because it can bring forth natural toxins.Time of visual aspect:Red tide can look at any clip and on any month of the twelvemonth but most likely to happen on August-November. So, some scientist said that it most common in summer and autumn, but they have been reported in every month of the twelvemonth in different topographic points. Red tide can be transported from one topographic point to another and that can go on when it transported inshore or along shore by tide, air current and currents. The ruddy tide phenomenon experienced by most of the beaches in the assorted maritime zones which usually remain a upper limit of three yearss, but if found suited support such as mill, waste and sewerage and so they remain active and will go more aggravated. We consider the phenomenon of ruddy tides as an environmental job because it can transported by air current and do many external respiration job for the people and there are many other bad affect for it on the marine beings like it can bring forth toxins which affect the nervous system in fish. The impact of Red Tide:First, the impact of ruddy tide on marine beings:Fisherise is something of import to human because it provide him with nutrient necessary for life and when you see the ( ruddy tide ) This enlargement is a proliferation of algae and plankton in a immense measure and bulky as it helps increase the sum of the fish in the sea and oceans every bit good as marine beings staged provender these Fungis. AS a consequence, lead to the decease and tunnel of big measures of fish all sorts on the beach ; therefore, there are three chief grounds for that: Natural devastation: Because of the big figure of the algae and plankton on the H2O the gills of the fish cloge with marine plankton as a consequence, lack the ability of fish to pull out O. Drain and O ingestion: When the proliferation of algae and plankton are excessively exhausted nutrient deficits, therefore the fish and Marine beings will decease and disintegrate and burrow on beach and besides the figure of bacteriums will increase. Direct toxic condition: Some algae produce toxic substances critical dislocation of the nervous system in fish, taking to them to decease and tunnel.Second, the impact of ruddy tide on the Worlds:Diseases of the respiratory system: This is produce by inspiration homo to the mizzle of the sea which is loaded with toxins released by algae and plankton and the symptoms are firing esthesis in the olfactory organ and pharynx, Tingling in the lingua and lips, Besides they can be infected by asthma and allergic reactions in the thorax. Injury of the digestive system and nutrient toxic condition: Symptoms is purging or sickness, spasms and terrible diarrhoea and that is achieved by eating fish that contain their organic structure on toxic algae m Besides can infected with human nutrient toxic condition by eating fish caught in the clip of ruddy tide for the content of toxic substances in their organic structures on the other manus the homo can be poisoned through the sea of toxic algae and plankton and that for the states that rely on sea H2O desalinization and straight exposed to toxicant. Complete palsy: That achieved through human ingestion of shellfish and toxins that are concentrated indoors do non vanish in the cookery causation diseases people may decease or endure other diseases. Diseases and tegument Burnss: Algae and plankton secrete some secernments may do Burnss and fungous tegument particularly for beach departers.Wayss for cut downing the impact of the ruddy tide:Obviously, That Human activities led to the corruptness of the marine environment.thus led to many amendss to him and other beings. So, it ‘s clip to take serious actions to cut down the harm of ruddy tides through some of the points which help to get the better of the ruddy tide: 1 aa‚ ¬ † Work on the application of the Torahs which regulating the constitution of tourer resorts. 2- Wastewater intervention and Subtractions subscribing an understanding between the states that overlooking on the same seashore to organize among them. 3- Experience and exchange information so as non to impact the piscaries. 4- Spread consciousness among citizens and fishermen through the media. 5- Continuous preparation for workers in the fish farms, and utilizing the modern methods in nutrition. 6- Establishment the follow-up plans on the short periods of clip. 7- Punishment throws the waste of agricultural and industrial in the sea and seek to utilize the lower limit of fertiliser. 8- Spray clay over the countries that show the plankton or algae that cause ruddy tide.Red Tide in the UAE:Figure 2.Red tide caused the decease of 1200 dozenss of fishRed tide causes several jobs along the UAE seashores. Peoples who lived in coastal countries suffered from a big sum of fish deceases and caused a bad odors. In late of 2008, ruddy tide phenomenon has been visited the UAE seashores. In add-on, statistics shows that the ruddy tide caused the deceases of 1200 dozenss of fish in August 2008 ( as the figure2 shows ) . The researches that have been done by the Ministry of Environment and Water in some H2O samples taken from different countries shows that there are eight species of algae causes the phenomenon of ruddy tide. These species included some types that are toxic to fishes. As a consequence, it caused the deceases of big measures of fish and crustaceans on the shores of the east seashore. Harmonizing to Dr. Salem Aldahri- the manager of environmental federal authority- said that the consequence of the chemical analysis confirms increasing of phosphate salts concentration and Nitrate in the H2O ; these are the chief Foods that Stimulates the growing of algae that causes the ruddy tide phenomenon. Therefore, the UAE hosted at that clip experts from the Regional Organization for Protection of Marine Environment to discourse this phenomenon to cut down the effects and to halt the strength increasing it to neighbouring states. However, the physical researches consequences that the marine environ ment of the UAE was ideal to the growing of algae that causes the ruddy tide. Besides, the temperature was suited, every bit good as the high concentration of dissolved O in surface H2O and low O concentration in the deepnesss. Furthermore, the Ministry of Environment and Water has taken since the start of the phenomenon several steps in order to cut down its negative impacts in UAE seashores. In 2003, the major ruddy tide job was recorded in the UAE in Mussafah Channel ; where a immense sum of fish deceases. As a solution of that job they opened the channel in order to hold better circulation of H2O. Furthermore, there are several studies published in newspapers said the phenomenon has plagued neighbouring emirates Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah for months, killing 100s of tones of fish. Furthermore, Dubai beaches which is a great touristaa‚ ¬a„?s finish. Therefore, ruddy tide caused important job in the economic system Dubai. So, the UAE authorities gives instructions t o fishermen non to angle during the ruddy tide continuance. Furthermore, they made workshops and talks to fishermen and the public people about the impact of the ruddy tide and rede them to avoid swimming and diving in the sea particularly kids ; because the ratio of the CO2 is really high. Besides, sitting in the beach will do antsy roseola in the tegument.

ACT Tutor for You

How to Find the Most Effective SAT/ACT Tutor for You SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Tutors are an investment in both time and money. Just because someone calls themselves a â€Å"SAT tutoring expert† doesn’t automatically confer the skills of that title upon them. (If it did, I would have become a master dinosaur expert by age 4.) Bad or ineffective tutors can actually hurt you and your potential SAT/ACT test score in two ways: 1) Financially: bad tutoring takes away from your budget and limits the resources you can spend to recoup your loss. 2) Time-wise: the time you spend on ineffective tutoring takes away from the time you could be spending better elsewhere. So what makes a tutor effective? In this article, I’ll go over the key qualities of the best SAT/ACT tutors. Top image: SAD_Hortons_Kids 8 by US Department of Education, used under CC BY 2.0/Cropped from original. 1: The Most Effective Tutors Have Taken The Test†¦And Aced It. It may seem obvious, but one of the most important things to look for in a tutor is someone who has aced the test you are studying for, whether it is the ACT or SAT. A tutor who has read up on the SAT/ACT is not the same as a tutor who has taken the test and gotten a 99th percentile score. This is true regardless of your own level – a tutor who scored a 2400 (or 1600 on the new SAT) or a 36 on the SAT or ACT is almost always better than a tutor who got a 2000 (or a 1300 on the new SAT) or a 30, even if you yourself have a target score of 1500 or 21. Scoring in the 99th percentile on the SAT/ACT takes more than just being smart and knowing the material – you have to know the tricks of the test. In fact, the reason test prep is necessary is that the tests AREN’T just testing knowledge or aptitude – they’re testing how good you are at taking the test. If you don’t realize this, it doesn’t matter how smart you are, how good you are at math, critical reading, writing, or science – you can still get tripped up by the test. making bunny ears by woodleywonderworks, used under CC BY 2.0/Cropped from original. If only test prep were this easy. An example of a little known strategy that can make a big difference: if you’re a 600 scorer on the SAT, you should skip the hardest 25% of questions and only answer the easier ones (for more tips like this, click here). Knowing about and using this strategy has nothing to do with being inherently smart – it has to do with knowing the way the SAT is constructed. In general, the best proof that a tutor truly knows the test is if they've gotten a perfect or near-perfect score on it. But this alone isn't enough... 2: The Most Effective Tutors Are Experts At Teaching The Material Just because someone is an effective tutor in other areas does not necessarily mean they will be an effective SAT/ACT tutor. Why? Because you need familiarity with teaching the specific test material in order to be able to explain the way the tests will try to trick you and strategies you can use to counteract that. Just because a tutor knows what the tricks are doesn’t necessarily mean that he can explain it well. This aspect of tutoring is so important, we've divided it up further into the specifics of what expert tutors provide. Tutoringthat's completely customized to your weaknesses The best tutors know how to tailor their teaching approach to each student’s needs, especially when it comes to teaching people who don’t think about things the way they do. At PrepScholar, this involves using the Socratic method, where the tutors are working WITH, not teaching AT, students. Take the following sample ACT Math question: A bad tutor might approach the problem this way: "Here’s how you solve the question. It’s an isoceles right triangle, so you know the most reduced Pythagorean triplet you’re going to use is 1, 1, √2. Since the two sides that are equal are 10 ft long, the hypotenuse must be 10√2 feet long. Does this make sense?" If you're the student, you're going to feel pressured to answer â€Å"yes,† even if you doesn’t fully understand. The tutor isn’t assessing your understanding at each step, which prevents him from understanding where you need help. Here's an example of what a GOODtutor would do, illustrated by a series of questions: "What answer did you choose? Why did you do this?" "What is the question asking for?" "What information does the question give you? What more information do you need to get to the answer?" "Great - so you know that in an isosceles right triangle, the sides are the same. How would you figure out the length of AC?" "Let's review the new points that we learned just now." Notice that a good tutor examines the student's thinking at every step and makes no assumptions about how the student's thinking about the problem. This process is critical to good teaching: two students who miss this question may miss it for entirely different reasons. One student might have forgotten what an isosceles right triangle means. Another might have known this, but forgotten the Pythagorean theorem. A good tutor will identify the exact weaknesses of his student and create custom strategies to overcome these weaknesses. When you interview a tutor, you should figure out whether the tutor is capable of this style of teaching (more tips on vetting tutors here). Effective use of tutoring time Most tutors will waste your time and money. Someone who just sits there watching you do practice tests isn’t a tutor – that's basically nothing more than a babysitter, or a source of radiant heat. During the session, this is deceiving because it seems like you're learning a lot, but the reality is that the tutor is missing major weaknesses. In contrast, a good tutor will accurately diagnose your weaknesses and prioritize the biggest gains to your score. Excelling on tests like the SAT and ACT requires mastery of skills at different levels: Behavior: are you motivated to study for the test? Do you review your mistakes correctly? Do you have the right attitude toward the test? Test Strategy:do you know how to budget your time in each section? Do you understand the best skipping strategy for your goals? Do you know how to attack each type of question? Test Content:where are your weaknesses in all the different subjects on the test? How do we make sure you have the right resources to improve these weaknesses? A great tutor will constantly be assessing these weaknesses and structuring tutoring sessions around where you can make the biggest point gains. This type of teaching requires mastery of the test as well as deep insight into student weaknesses. That's why as part of PrepScholar tutoring, we equip our tutors with technology to analyzestudent weaknesses across the entire test. Your tutor will have access to every homework problem completed before the session, so the tutor will come prepared with lesson plans designed to improve your score fastest. Comprehensive test prep guidance Good tutors know it’s not just about what you do in the tutoring session. For every hour you meet with a tutor, you might spend 10 hours on your homework. Therefore,a good tutor's influence is not limited to just the teaching session - it extends across your entire prep program. The best tutors will do much more than answer your questions during tutoring sessions. They'll help you stay motivated to study. They'llshow you the most effective way to review missed questions, and they'll increase the effectiveness of your study time outside of tutoring session. When you work with a tutor, your tutor should be able to plan a complete study program and assign specific sets of homework. The tutor should be able to justify exactly why that homework is assigned, and why that's the best thing for the student to improve the score. unicycles doughnuts by Robert Couse-Baker, used under CC BY 2.0/Cropped from original. The Most Effective Tutors Come Recommended by Trustworthy Sources But wait, just because someone says they have experience teaching and aced the test doesn’t mean it’s true! This is where quality control and recommendations come in. For tutors, this often comes via word of mouth: you hear about people you know who had good (or bad) experiences with a tutor or tutoring service. Another way to prescreen for quality tutoring is by going through an organization with a reputation for excellence in SAT/ACT tutoring. Quick plug: check out the PrepScholar tutoring site for a great example of tutors who are pre-screened to be effective teachers. So How Do I Find An Effective Tutor? When you’re looking for a tutor, you need to approach it like a job interview...except YOU are the interviewer. Why? Because you are making sure the tutor is the right person for the job of tutoring you to reach your maximum potential. It’s easy to be intimidated by potential tutors because they seem so knowledgeable, charismatic, or authoritative. Just because they will be teaching you, though, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be able to ask them questions and make sure they are the best tutor possible for you. In fact, it makes it all the more important that you find an effective, expert, and reputable tutor. The most recent analogy in my own life was at the beginning of grad school, when I was trying to decide on the right composition teacher. I was a little (okay, a lot) in awe of how much each of the three teachers I was choosing between knew, but I ultimately had to make sure that the professor I chose was going to be able to teach me what I needed to learn to be a better composer. To help you out in your quest for the right tutor, we’ve come up with this handy worksheet, containing a list of questions to ask any potential tutor (and space for you to write in the tutors’ answers). Click here to download it, or click the image below. The Bottom Line To sum it all up, here are the main attributes to look for in a tutor: They’ve taken the test and scored in the 99th percentile, so they know how to ace the SAT/ACT. They have expertise in tutoring effectively for the SAT/ACT. They have references from reputable sources. I hope these guidelines were clear and informative. What impact did the Counter Reformation have on religious art and Essay

What impact did the Counter Reformation have on religious art and architecture in Venice - Essay Example de that separated the â€Å"elite† and â€Å"universal† religion on one side and the â€Å"popular† and â€Å"local† religious practices on the other side that involved both Protestants and Catholics in many parts of Europe.1 (William A. Christian, Jr., 1981) Jean Delumeau,2 a reputed French historian, believed that Counter Reformation was more of â€Å"cultural domination† that was used to convert the masses to Christianity. According to him it was a fundamental breaking away from medieval Christianity that was practiced by a greater majority of people. In this context, art and architecture during this period was greatly influenced and changed according to the changes made in society. For example, during the period of 1450 – 1660, art and architecture moved away from the mystical elements of medieval Catholicism and ushered in an era of progressive minds whose sculptures and paintings was based on a naturalistic approach based on scientific study. The Medieval period saw theorists approach and gauge artistic values in a more theoretical manner that mostly emphasized the spiritual, religious, and moral teachings of the Church. However, during the period of the 1420’s, art and architecture was viewed from a very different perspective that was based on naturalism. Anthony Blunt3 (1985) in his book titled ‘Artistic Theory in Italy, 1450 – 1660’ sheds light on Leon Battista Alberti’s writings explaining about the changes that took place in Italy in the field of art and architecture due to the influence brought about by the social, cultural and political changes that were ushered in by the Reformation. He explains that Alberti adopted a Humanistic approach in all of his writings on architecture, paintings and sculpture. Three of his best treatises were – a painting - Della Pittura di Leon Battista Alberti Libri tre, written in 1436, the ten books of architecture, De Re Aedificatoria written in 1450 and a pamphlet on sculpture, De Statua which he probably

Rational persuasion Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Rational persuasion - Term Paper Example The bargain wilds intensely as the teachers are seriously on the neck of the government terming them not serious about the lives of the children who are not being taught, as the government is quite reluctant about their issues (Hoch 2004 pg 64-9). Through out the bargains, the government given the tough economic times tries to use rational persuasion to try to sway the angry teachers to class. This evident since the government has directed their negotiations towards the influential minorities that is the teachers’ consultees; they are trained and given non-factual promises by the government (Hoch 2004 pg 97). The promises are non- factual given that they do not give any timelines and are not giving any statistical figures in form of percentage increase of the mentioned benefits. The limitation of this is that the method would not suppress the angry teachers are they are already aware of the conning that the government is likely to direct to them. Faced with such a situation in the future, an integration of both factual and rational would be considered to relay quite convincing information. Scenario 2 Rational persuasion for security of a country There is a terrorist group, which is seriously terrorizing the citizens’ of the country jeopardizing the role of the government of protecting its citizens. Though power is held by the state, the group is reckless and does not mind hurting any individual as they have nothing much to lose. There is a terrorist group, which is seriously terrorizing the citizens’ of the country jeopardizing the role of the government of protecting its citizens. Though power is held by the state, the group is reckless and does not mind hurting any individual as they have nothing much to lose. The government on the other hand is not in the position of attacking those head on, as this may lead to the group unleashing its potential on the innocent civilians through their poisonous biological weapons. The government has therefore the option of engaging the group in a discussion for a negotiation, which cannot be factual as the terror group, cannot be promised facts given that this would be against the sovereignty of the state.   In the persuasion efforts, the government presents on the table goodies for the terror group and promises them to be integrated in the running of the government. They are therefore, invited to select their top officials or the individuals they entrusts with t he promised positions and the intention of the government inviting them to this table is to peacefully detain the officials without the followers awareness. This is a divide and rule technique of running the government as the result is directed towards making the followers realize that soon they are likely to be detained as their leaders hence scaring their activities and the harms they are likely to create to the government. The rebels on the other hand purpose a negotiation through representatives.
